The Union Government is unlikely to bear the liability of loans to be availed from international agencies for the Kerala semi-high-speed rail (HSR) corridor project (Silver Line). The international agencies likely to fund the project are Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, German Development Bank, and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The project involves construction of 529.45 km long of semi-HSR third and fourth rail lines between Kochuveli in Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod to operate trains at a speed of 180 km per hour. The project is being implemented by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited. It entails an investment of Rs 639.4 billion.
